moments: a newsletter on money + movements

by Morgan Curtis, Social Justice Giving Coach

As I write, the Hawaiian people are standing to protect their sacred mountain Mauna Kea from desecration through construction of a thirty-meter telescope, funded by philanthropic dollars from the United States. You can stand with them by donating to the Mauna Kea Defense Fund. This photo by Norm Sands, February 2019, Berkeley, CA — that’s me on the far left.

What’s inspiring me this month

The Southern Reparations Loan Fund is a network of loan funds that lend to democratically-governed enterprises that meet the needs and elevate the quality of life of African American, immigrant, and poor white communities in the US South.

What I’m up to this month

This fall, I’ll be co-convening a White Anti-Racist Praxis Group with the Bay Area Resource Generation chapter. This small group of young people with access to wealth and/or class privilege will meet for 6 sessions to deeply explore issues of race, class, and wealth.

Know anyone who might be interested? Apply to join here (deadline is today, Sept 9!)

Who I love to support

Do you know any young people with wealth who worry about how to have their relationship with money be in integrity with their social justice values?

Maybe they’ve thought about giving money away, or investing in a more values-aligned way, but have felt stuck on how to take the first step.

I encourage you to forward this email to them! And if it’s you, I’d love to talk and see if it might be a good fit for me to support you.
