Decolonial Dames of America

“Decolonial Dames of America is a pocket-sized exploration of the repair work required of white descendants of colonial settlers and enslavers in North America. In this personal narrative and family story, Morgan Curtis reimagines the “sacred obligation” of those whose genealogies are intimately tied with the founding of the United States. Following the thread of one particular story from the 1800s into the present, she demonstrates what a praxis of ancestral reckoning and accountability might look like. “We have agency to transform our inheritances,” says brontë velez in a prayer of protection that follows Curtis’ words. The chap book closes with a call to action by Melissa Wood Bartholomew: "Truth telling is a spiritual discipline. It liberates our soul. We need the truth to sever our soul’s entanglements from the roots of colonization and slavery.” This chapbook is Volume II Number 1 of a series of prayer books from The Constellation Project and Terry Tempest Williams. Published March 2023.”
